Hahoe Village, 24 §° west of Andong is one of the few officially sanctioned "traditional villages" in the country. It occupies a knob of land that causes the mighty Nakdong River to form a double-S loop. Hahoe, with its markedly pastoral and rustic atmosphere, has produced many scholars and government officials, and is the wellspring of a folksy masked-dance drama. It is one of the few remaining examples of a classical Joseon Dynasty Confucian village layout. The fewer than 500 inhabitants consider their community a living symbol of tradition |
