In 1982, UNESCO designated this zone to be strictly preserved for its unique botanical features. These thickly forested hillsides sustain over 800 varieties of plants and about 500 kinds of
animals. The animals are mostly small mammals and birds, although there have been recent unconfirmed reports of tigers and bears deep in the park's trail-less valleys.
